UF Travel: Oslo

The UF Uppsala Travel Group, together with UPF Växjö, visited Oslo and its surroundings in May 2024. They provided Uttryck with some insights from their weekend. WE ARRIVED in Oslo at noon on Friday, ready to explore the city. After we checked in to our hostel, we went to visit the famous opera house, before moving on to visit the Munch museum, housing some of the most famous artworks by the Norwegian artist Edward Munch. That evening we met up with our friends from UPF Växjö and went out to enjoy our first evening together over supper and some drinks.

The following day we first visited the 22 July Centre, dedicated to the victims of the 2011 attack on the Norwegian government building and the summer camp on the island of Utøya. Afterwards we had lunch, made a quick stop at St Olav’s Cathedral, before heading up to Rondeslottet, an art installation in memory of the sacrifices made by those during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany in WW2. On the way back we stopped by the Holmenkollen ski jump (and coincidentally bumped into Norwegian Olympic skier Therese Johaug) and finally chilled out in Vigeland Park for a bit.

We spent the following day on Bygdøy, where we visited the Kon Tiki & Fram museums, before having lunch and some chill time by the water. Some of us also visited the Hjemmefrontmuseum at Akershus fortress. That evening we went to the neighbouring town of Lilleström to watch a football match.

On our final day we, along with our friends from Växjö, visited the Swedish embassy to talk about Swedish-Norwegian relations, and then had lunch together in the park by the Royal Palace. The last few hours we walked around town, visited the university, ate ice cream and checked out some shops, before getting the train back to Uppsala.
