The Impact of Sanctions on the Russian War Economy

How do sanctions work? Do they work? And what impact are they having on the Russian war machine?

Isidore Brommare is joined by Torbjörn Becker, Director of the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE), at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Becker is one of Sweden’s foremost experts on Eastern European economies and has since the start of the Ukraine war led the work of the institute to analyse the impact of Western economic sanctions on the Russian economy.

The discussion explores economic sanctions as a concept, their historical implementation, and the role of sanctions in the strategy to punish Russia’s war of aggression.
